Global healthcare company Cencora (#10 on 2024’s Fortune 500 list) and partner Handcrafted Learning were awarded “Best Corporate Culture Transformation,” continuing Cencora’s track record of industry leadership in both business outcomes and culture.
The Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards recognize best practices for initiatives in Human Resources, Talent Acquisition and Management, and Learning and Development. Cencora and Handcrafted Learning were awarded this honor for their multi-year, data-driven strategy to foster a culture of inclusion for a global workforce. Led by Cencora’s Chief DEI Officer Ann Anaya, and in partnership with behavioral experts and culture change strategists at Handcrafted Learning, Cencora’s Global Inclusion initiative measurably drove high inclusion metrics during a time of global expansion for the operation.
Beginning in 2022, the enterprise-wide Global Inclusion initiative was created by and for a vast audience: frontline workers, corporate employees, and seniormost leaders in all Cencora’s countries of operation. In 2023, all the companies and services of AmerisourceBergen united under one new name, Cencora. The change was an opportunity for every team member in 50+ countries to participate in co-creating Cencora’s culture.
“The strategy was designed to engage and empower team members,” says Gem Moon, Design Director at Handcrafted Learning. “Instead of one-way messaging about Cencora’s culture, team members at all levels were given practice opportunities to operationalize new behaviors.”
To make this possible, Cencora and Handcrafted Learning went beyond one-size-fits-all compliance training. By measuring employee experience metrics and tracking to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals, they developed targeted interactive solutions that changed behavior for specific teams, functions, roles, and regions.
“The old days of offering an off-the-shelf unconscious bias training and saying you’ve addressed inclusion are over,” says Anaya. “Cencora has been focused on effectively measuring inclusion and crafting behavior-oriented training to drive objective, measurable outcomes for building a global culture of inclusion. Our DEI Center of Excellence aims to positively impact a wider ecosystem of inclusion by supporting leaders, partners, customers, and stakeholders around the world—driving growth and innovation through inclusion.”
In addition to the Gold award for “Best Corporate Culture Transformation,” Cencora and Handcrafted Learning also won Gold awards for “Best HR Strategy and Measurement Approach,” “Best Learning Measurement,” and “Best Program for Measuring Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.”
